Contrary to what the name implies, the members of Japanese Breakfast hail from Philadelphia, not Japan. Despite this, the music of J Brekie – a quartet led by guitarist and songwriter Michelle Zuaner – shares some of its indie-pop vibe with city pop, a jazzy and bright genre of music popularized in 1980s Tokyo.
