When Edwin Gil fled to Charlotte from South America in the 2000’s, he utilized the services at Urban Ministry Center to help him get back on his feet. Being an artist himself, he was one of the first members to participate in the ArtWorks945 Program. Now he is a thriving artist and art teacher and is utilizing his gift to show us how we're all connected.
Edwin Gill and Kate Carlson worked with the ArtWorks945 studio and members of the community to create his 44th Faces of Diversity Mosaic. Urban Ministry Center is proud to be the new home for his latest piece and we want to invite you to be a part of the unveiling!
On March 2nd, 2019 we invite the community to join us in honoring the diversity that we encounter every day on our campus at 945 N College St. Please join us from 1:30-3:30 as we gather for refreshments, listen to stories, and are reminded that we aren’t quite as different as we think! ArtWorks945, a program of the Urban Ministry Center, utilizes the power of art to create a therapeutic space for transformative relationships and opportunities to work toward permanent housing.
Faces of Diversity is an international social art project by artist Edwin Gil. Hands-on activities combined with intentional dialogue about race, culture, and socio-economics help participants see how we're all connected and special in our own way.
