The history of our city's nickname “the Queen City” and the county where it’s located in are named after the same royal woman -- Queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In honor of the queen in your life, here is a roundup of events to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend in Charlotte on May 10-12.
Explore the Spring Blossoms with Mom
Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden
Saturday, May 11 at 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 at 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Cost: Free for Mothers & Garden Members, $14.95 Adults, $7.95 Kids 2-12yrs
A relaxing day at the garden is all Mom needs. The first 250 mothers to arrive at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden each day beginning at 9 a.m., will receive a free potted plant courtesy of Roundtree Plantation Garden Center. The garden will also host a Wine Walk on Saturday where Moms can receive a wine glass and sample five wines at stations throughout the garden. If wine’s not her thing, perhaps an afternoon tea with Sproutycakes Bakery will do it. Eenjoy tea sandwiches and sweets to go along with her tea. Sometimes it’s nice to just spend some quality time with just Mom, the family and the Queen City. Take photos with a stunning art installation, hear live music or taste local food throughout Uptown to commemorate Charlotte’s 250th Anniversary.

R&B singer and songwriter Keith Sweat brings A Mother's Day Celebration to Charlotte for a concert that is sure to get the crowd grooving in their seats. Cue up the This is Keith Sweat Spotify playlist to get familiar with his hit songs like “Twisted,” “Nobody,” and “I’ll Give All My Love To You.” Special Marsha Ambrosius and host MC Lightfoot will also be on-stage to ensure that everyone has a good time. If you need to postpone celebrations to later, snag tickets to take Mom to another Ovens Auditorium show to see the legendary Carol Burnett at (May 14), Family Feud Live - Celebrity Edition (June 6) or Jen Hatmaker & Heather Land (June 19).

Does the mom in your life like to put the pedal to the metal? See how she does on the track at Mooresville’s The Pit Indoor Kart Racing where she’ll get one race free and half-price races the rest of the day. Make the day a full-on adventure with a game of laser tag or a round of black-light mini golf.

Historic Rural Hill hosts the 9th Annual North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival. Friday Night Jam has a full line-up of great bands with the option of a camping weekend pass. Then, 40 of the best craft brewers will arrive on Saturday for a tasting session that will impress your craft beer loving Mom. 11 bands will play on 2 stages throughout the weekend, including Grammy Award winners The Infamous Stringdusters.

The Hippie Fest brings together people from across the country together to celebrate peace, love and all things groovy. Bring your free-spirited mom to this festival for live music, bohemian shopping, vintage hippie car show, DIY tie-dye and more. All ages are welcome. Charlotte’s hometown restaurant, Showmars, will join forces with Greg Olsen and Receptions For Research: The Greg Olsen Foundation to host the HEARTest Yard + Showmars 5K. Runners, walkers, families and friends will take part to help raise money and awareness for children who receive vital care for Congenital Heart Diseases and Disorders from Levine Children’s world-class pediatric congenital heart program. All proceeds will benefit programs for pediatric hearts at Levine Children’s Hospital.

Get your fit mom to catch The Rising presented by Fit Atelier, Charlotte Shout and Atrium Health. This multi-sensory yoga experience takes place at sunrise. Yoga will be led by Jaimis Huff featuring live music by Brit Drozda. Atrium Health will provide yoga mats for the first 250 participants. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Share Charlotte for projects that benefit the city of Charlotte.

The 23rd annual Central Piedmont Skyline Run is a family-friendly event features: the Kaye McGarry 5K Run, Walk for Health, Family Fun Run (1 mile) and the 5K Baby Jogger Championship. Stick around to check out the health & Fitness stations, food and a fun activities in the Kids Zone. The run will shine the spotlight on moms in our community and raise scholarship dollars to support CPCC student mothers – women who are seeking education and career training opportunities needed to secure a bright future for their families.
